How online Japanese lessons work
An online Japanese lesson is a live session with a teacher through a video platform. The strongest lessons are not simply a video call or a textbook lecture. They combine structure, interaction, correction, and a clear reason for each activity.
For private 1-on-1 lessons, the teacher can adjust the balance as your needs change. A complete beginner may need more English explanation and careful pronunciation support. An intermediate learner may need guided conversation and grammar correction. An advanced learner may want nuance, discussion, listening, or more natural phrasing.
Choose lessons for your actual goal
“Learn Japanese” can mean very different things. Before choosing a tutor, decide what you want to do more confidently in the next three to six months. A specific goal makes lesson time more useful and makes progress easier to notice.

These goals can overlap. For example, a learner preparing for N3 may also need speaking practice, and someone who has passed N1 may still want regular correction and conversation about real topics.
Private lessons or group lessons?
Private online Japanese lessons
Private lessons give you more speaking time and let the teacher respond directly to your level, interests, pace, and recurring mistakes. They work well when you have a specific goal or want consistent feedback. The tradeoff is that private lessons normally cost more than group classes.
Group online Japanese lessons
Group lessons can be more affordable and can give you classmates to study with. They work well when the course level and schedule suit you. The tradeoff is less individual speaking time and less freedom to change the lesson focus.
How to choose an online Japanese tutor
A profile description is useful, but the lesson system matters too. Before paying, check whether the tutor clearly explains the lesson format, schedule, price, cancellation rules, communication method, and who the lessons are designed for.
- Level: Does the tutor regularly teach students near your current level?
- Goal: Can the lessons support speaking, beginner foundations, JLPT study, or the goal you actually have?

How lessons work with Junichiro
Junichiro Japanese offers private 1-on-1 online lessons through Google Meet, from complete beginner to advanced. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, like talking with a friend, with topics chosen around your interests. Explanations are in English and Japanese practice fits your level. When you need time to think or understand, Junichiro waits and works through it with you.
Complete beginners write hiragana together with Junichiro and learn ways to remember it, then move on to katakana and grammar. Advanced learners can work on responding more readily, expanding vocabulary, and natural phrasing. Junichiro does not use commercially published textbooks at any stage. He prepares, edits, and checks original materials each week, drawing on your interests, difficulties, previous mistakes, and lesson transcripts.
Your weekly review PDF includes the finished lesson sheets, review questions, points you found difficult, and useful topics that arose outside the planned material, with reference to the lesson transcript. PDFs for Monday–Wednesday lessons are normally emailed on Wednesday; those for Thursday–Friday lessons on Saturday or Sunday. Homework remains optional.
Regular lesson times are available on weekdays and plans are prepaid monthly, starting from one lesson per week. The standard rate is USD $60 per hour, with monthly plans beginning at $240 for four one-hour lessons.
